VMware server 2, vm not picking up an IP address off lan

Hi, we moved office and as a result had to power down one of our servers for a few hours, when it booted back up the VM i had running on vmware server 2 now cant pick up an ip address off the lan, instead it picks up this 169.254.101.1 , i've tried disabling the adapters and re-enabling ...and also tried release & renew but still not getting an address, can anyone help?

169.254.x.y is a so called APIPA address, that the server will assign if it can't contact or receive a lease from a DHCP server.

Check with your network administrator if the LAN connection you are connected to is configured in the same way as before - i.e. on the correct subnet or VLAN.

Check there is no port security or access controls enabled on the network switch port.

Assuming that the virtual machine vNIC is in bridged mode, then check your VMware Server itself has network connectivity.

Check that the DHCP server has available leases and can issue them to other clients.

Hi,

yes I have checked all of the above, it is on the same subnet ......same switches, same security as before....host has internet connectivity and local lan connectivity, dhcp has plenty of available leases.....
I'm assuming then that you've also checked the VM is also still using a bridged network connection.

Does the server have more than one physical NIC?  If so, are you sure the same one is plugged in as before?

In Start Menu > VMware > Virtual Network Editor dialog (by sure to run this as Administrator - shift + right click on the icon and run as Administrator)

Is Automatic Bridging enabled?  If it is, try disabling it, and then in the Host Virtual Network Mapping tab, ensure the correct NIC is mapped to the appropriate VMnet.
now im getting this??

Error: You have started VMware Server with an out-of-date copy of the application. VMware Server cannot power on virtual machines using this copy (version 2.0.2). To power on this virtual machine, run VMware Server from the default location.
when i log on via the web access , i can see a red x in "network adapter 1"
